Uruguay win a record 15th Copa America after beat Paraguay 3-0 to be the King of Copa America. Uruguay now have one more title than hosts Argentina, whom they upset on penalties in the last eight, at the end of a fine 12 months following their fourth place at the 2010 FIFA World Cup.

Uruguay 2-0 Peru : Luis Suarez scores twice to ensure a ticket to the 2011 Copa America final

The 2010 World Cup semifinalist Uruguay ensure a ticket to the Copa America final after beat Peru 2-0 at La Plata on tuesday, kept on course for what would be a record 15th win in the world's oldest international football tournament, Copa America.

Two goals in the space of five minutes in the second half from Luis Suarez were enough for Oscar Washington Tabarez's side to make it through.

The Atletico Madrid forward Diego Forlan misfit fired in a majestic left footed shot, which keeper Raul Fernandez was only able to parry and Liverpool striker Luis Suarez reacted in a flash to bury the rebound from point blank range.

Suarez scored again five minutes later when Alvaro Pereira passed from the left and the striker collected the ball, rounded Fernandez on the edge of the box and steered it gently home.

Uruguay task was made easier when Peru's captain, Juan Vargas, was sent off after 69 minutes, when He reacted to provocation from Sebastian Coates and elbowed the defender in the face, earning himself a red card.

Argentina were eliminated in 2011 Copa America quarter final by Uruguay, through a penalty shootout

Uruguay ensure to a 2011 Copa America semi final ticket after getting rid of the host Argentina. Uruguay seal the ticket after winning the match is determined on penalty shootout in the Stadium Brigadier General Estanislao Lopez, Santa Fe.

The match ended 1-1 after regulation time and there was no addition to that scoreline in extra time.

Diego Perez gave Uruguay 1-0 lead in the 6th minute, but Argentina replied with a goal by Gonzalo Higuain in the 17th minute.

Both team ended with 10 men with defensive midfielders Diego Perez and Javier Mascherano picking up red cards, Perez in the first half and Mascherano in the second after each received two yellow cards.

In penalty shootouts, all five of Uruguay's successfully carry out their duties while Argentina's penalties were well taken as well, but Muslera came up big when Carlos Tevez stepped up to the spot third in the order, making a great diving save to his right to give his team the advantage. With Martin Caceres scoring the winning fifth spot kick.

Uruguay advance to the semifinals and will face Peru, who in the quarter final earlier defeated Colombia 2-0.

Uruguay reach quarter final 2011 Copa America after beat Mexico 1-0

The 2010 FIFA World Cup semifinalist Uruguay guaranteed the showdown by beating Mexico 1-0 on Tuesday to secure second place in Group C and a advance to face host Argentina in the quarter finals. Uruguay and Argentina have each won the Copa America 14 times, more than anyone else.

FC Porto winger Alvaro Pereira netted the game's only a goal in the 14th minute when chipping in after Diego Forlan's free kick was parried by Mexico keeper Luis Michel.

Diego Forlan and Nicolas Lodeiro both hit the bar as Uruguay sought to find a second goal. With Forlan missing three or four clear chances. Forlan is now scoreless in his last 10 matches with the Uruguay national team.

It was a disappointing tournament for Mexico, which was the runner-up in 1993 and 2001. Mexico lost all three of its matches fielding a second-string team. Alexis Sanchez equalized to give Chile a 1-1 draw against Uruguay

Alexis Sanchez, who has been linked to a move from Italian club Udinese to a number of top European clubs including Barcelona, scored the equalizer in Chile's 1-1 draw against Uruguay at Stadium Malvinas Argentinas, Mendoza on friday (7/8/2011) in Group C second 2011 Copa America match.

The 2010 FIFA World Cup semifinalist Uruguay started well in the first half they had a few chances, with a Diego Forlan shot which was stopped by a Chile defender. But in the second half they took the lead by Alvaro Pereira who scored on 54 minutes by a perfect pass from Luis Suarez.

Luis Suarez equalises just before half time as Uruguay were held by Peru 1-1

The 2010 FIFA World Cup semi finalists Uruguay came from behind to a 1-1 draw with Peru in their opening Copa America Group C match in San Juan on Monday (7/4/2011), meaning all three seeded sides at the 2011 Copa America have failed to win their opening matches.

Paolo Guerrero gave Peru a 1-0 lead in the 24th minutes, a surprising start for a team playing without its top two forwards, both out injured. Guerrero sprung the offside trap and raced half the length of the field to round Fernando Muslera and open the scoring.

Peru had to rely heavily on counter-attack after starting without forwards Jefferson Farfan and Claudio Pizarro. Midfielder Juan Vargas, also has nagging injuries, but came on in the second half.

Uruguay is the pick of some pundits to win the 2011 Copa America, ahead of Brazil and Argentina. Uruguay reached the 2011 FIFA World Cup semifinals a year ago and is fielding much the same team in the South American championship.
