Real Madrid finally qualify for the next round of the Champions League after beating Lyon 3-0 in Santiago Bernabue Stadium on Wednesday (03/16/2011). The three winning goal scored by Marcelo, Karim Benzema, and Angel Di Maria.
In the first leg in Lyon ended with the score 1-1. Madrid actually just need a goalless draw to get through. However, because want to satisfy loyal supporters at the Santiago Bernabeu, Madrid appear with the best performance.
This is the first time Madrid qualify for the Champions League quarterfinals after the last time they did it in season 2003/2004.
Madrid's first chance by Ronaldo free kick. But, the ball was still rising. Then, Madrid return threaten by the Brazilian player, Marcelo who do kick from inside the penalty box after overlapping. However, his shot just produce corner kick.
In minute 6, Lyon's turn instead threaten by Cesar Delgado kick from outside the penalty box, but still can be driven Iker Casillas. This threat was immediately reply by Ronaldo through a hard kick from outside the penalty box, but Lloris able to dismiss these kicks.
Finally, Madrid supporters cheering on 37 minutes when Marcelo was able to break the deadlock of his team. After making the pass one-two with Ronaldo in front of the penalty area, Marcelo able to conquer the goalkeeper Hugo Lloris after past the two Lyon defender.
At minute 66, Marcelo's long pass is not anticipated by a Lyon defender. Benzema who gets the ball did not waste the opportunity. Quietly, Benzema successfully defeated former his teammate, Hugo Lloris.
Lyon chance to qualify the next phase is gone, Angel Di Maria increase the the advantage his team in 76 minutes, After receiving a header pass from Mesut Oezil.
Madrid supporters euphoria fulfill the Bernabeu stadium that night, celebrating the 3-0 victory over Olympic Lyon, Real Madrid VS Olympic Lyon 3-0.
