Penarol and LDU Quito qualify for the last 16 of Copa Libertadores 2011

LDU Quito and Penarol become the sixth and the seventh to ensure a ticket to the phase 16 of the Copa Libertadores, 2011, Wednesday (13 / 4). Both qualify as champions and runners-up of Group 8.

Penarol real chance to finish as group winners for being the leader of the standings before the final match three days ago. However, Penarol defeated 0-1 by Independiente, seven-time champion from Argentina, at the Estadio Centenario, Montevideo. The defeat of the host occurs by Facundo Parra scored in the 34th minute.

Despite losing, Penarol still qualify with 9 points or one point above Independiente. For Independiente, qualifying for the last 16 was impossible because they must win at least eight goals.

"The defeat is disappointing although we still get through," said Fabian Carini, goalkeeper Penarol, on club's official site.

Penarol success coincided with 120th birthday of Uruguay's most successful clubs. Sadly, the game is tainted with friction between supporters of Penarol with Independiente's fans.
