Rooney silent Chelsea at Stamford Bridge

Manchester United made a big step closer to Champions League semi-final, after a single goal of Wayne Rooney makes the Red Devils win over Chlesea 1-0, in the first leg champions league quarter-final at Stamford Bridge. Wednesday (04/06/2011).

Wayne Rooney's single goal was to make United won for the first time at Stamford Bridge in nine years. After scoring hattrick against West Ham United in the Premiership, Rooney back 'hot' with Ryan Giggs feed before placing the ball into the down corner for a goal in minute 24.

One goal was enough for United because Chlesea not play effectively despite relying on Fernando Torres and Didier Drogba up front. "Keeping clean sheets is important and counter-attack is part of the game, Wayne Rooney in great form and he gave us a great opportunity for the semifinals." Sir Alex Ferguson said.

Chelsea was upset with the defeat, mainly because they failed to get a penalty in the last minute where Ramires dropped Patrice Evra. Referee Alberto Undiano Mallenco let the game continue to run even in television, it became clear there was contact between the two players. "It's clearly a penalty and should have blown the whistle," said Chelsea coach, Carlo Ancelotti.

Ferguson was reluctant to discuss the Chelsea penalty claims. from Scotland manager was just saying if United play well tonight.

"I know they do everything they can, if it is really a penalty, then it will be the first in seven years, then I would not feel too guilty," said Ferguson.

After that goal, Manchester United over many survive to maintain its superiority.
