Damiano Tommasi named president of AIC, lead 4.500 players



Damiano Tommasi has been named president of the Associazione Italiana Calciatori (AIC) - the Italian Footballers' Association as he takes the place of Sergio Campana, which has led the AIC since 1963.

Enthusiastic playing style, is typical of Damiano Tommasi. Reasonable when Tommasi become an irreplaceable figure in the defensive midfield position when Roma won the Scudetto 2001.

Tommasi is a figure very uphold fairness. In 2005, he received contract renewal for one season in Roma with a fee equivalent to junior players. He just paid 1500 euros. Tommasi replaces Campana who announced he would be stepping down from his position last week.

It was Campana who founded the AIC in 1968 and will leave after 43 years at the helm. The 76-year-old established the AIC alongside players such as Gianni Rivera, and Sandro Mazzola.

Some measures established by the AIC during Campana's time in charge include freedom at the end of contracts, and social security.
