Cagey Opening to the 2011 Copa America continued as Paraguay and Ecuador played out a goalless

Paraguay was held to a 0-0 draw by Ecuador on Sunday (7/3/2011) in the opening match for each team at the 2011 Copa America.

The 2010 World Cup quarterfinalist Paraguay had most of the scoring chances but failed to break through in an end to end Group B match that was exciting but lacked finishing.

Earlier in the day holder Brazil drew a blank against Venezuela, and this draw means just three goals have been scored in the tournament's opening four matches.

Better will surely come as the tournament progresses, and indeed the encounter at Estadio Brigadier General Estanislao Lopez was not without clear-cut chances for both sides.

Ecuador goalkeeper Marcelo Elizaga kept his side in the game with key saves against Edgar Barreto and Roque Santa Cruz. He was also lucky when a second half shot by Marcelo Estigarribia went just across the front of the goal.

Without a goal scored on Sunday there was nothing to separate the four teams of Group B as they all sit on one point. The group returns to action on July 9 with Brazil and Paraguay playing in Cordoba and Ecuador facing Venezuela in Salta.
