Schalke win German Super Cup after beat Dortmund on penalty shootout

Schalke 04 earned German Super Cup through penalty shootout, The Royal Blues beat the Bundesliga champions Borussia Dortmund,4-3. The game was played at the Arena auf Schalke in front of a sellout crowds of 61,673 as Schalke win their first German Super Cup title.

Ralf Faehrmann, signed to replace Manuel Neuer as Schalke's goalkeeper, made a spectacular debut on Saturday. He saved two penalties in the shootout from Dortmund's Kevin Grosskreutz and Ivan Perisic, while Schalke scored all their four needed penalties.

Ilkay Gundogan and Mats Hummels scored Dortmund's opening kicks while Schalke did likewise through Lewis Holtby and Edu, but Grosskreutz missed to heap the pressure on the champions.

Moritz Leitner's successful shoot kept Dortmund in at as Schalke stayed perfect with efforts from Benedikt Howedes and Jose Manuel Jurado, but the game was up for Jurgen Klopp's men when Perisic failed to convert.

The German Super Cup was officially reinstated by the German federation (DFB) last year after a 14 year absence.

Duisburg 0-5 Schalke: Royal Blues won the DFB Pokal

Schalke won the German Cup this season. In the finals they beat Duisburg 5-0. DFB Pokal final match of the season was held on Saturday (05/21/2011) at Olympia Stadium, Berlin.

Schalke goal lead through Julian Draxler when the game lasts 18 minutes. 17-year-old player was successfully take advantage of the pass from Jefferson Farfan. and Klaas-Jan Huntelaar doubled the advantage four minutes later. Benedikt Howedes powerfully headed home a corner moments before half-time, and Jose Manuel Jurado added a fourth in the 54th minute.

Huntelaar completed his brace on 71 minutes, and die Knappen managed to keep a clean sheet in what was likely to be Manuel Neuer's last game in a Schalke shirt.

Schalke's victory marks their fifth ever DFB Pokal title. The result is doubly advantageous as it grants the winners an automatic spot in the 2011-12 Europa League.

This victory is the biggest score in the final of the German Cup championship since 1972, As Schalke beat Kaiserslautern with a score of 5-0.

Manchester United will fight Chelsea in last eight of the Champions League

Just read the news from the BBC News report on drawing the quarter-finals of the Champions League, Chelsea and Manchester United have been drawn to face each other in the quarter-finals of the Champions League, while Tottenham Hotspurs will play Real Madrid. Barcelona meet Shakhtar Donetsk, with reigning champions Inter Milan drawn against Schalke 04.

Chelsea or United will go on to face either Inter or Schalke 04, while the winners of the other two last eight ties will meet in the other semi-final.

The quarter-final ties will be played on 5/6/ and 12/13 April 2011.

Chelsea have yet to win the Champions League and will have revenge on their minds after losing the 2008 Champions League final to Manchester United on penalties in Moscow.
