AC Milan closer to Serie A title following a 1-0 win over Bologna. Milan are now eight points ahead of nearest rival, Inter Milan. The victory at San Siro on Sunday (05/01/2011), ensured quick goal by Mathieu Flamini. The only a goal in the game occurred in the eighth minute.
With these results, Milan has been collecting 77 points at the top of Serie A. Inter followed with 69 points in second position.
Even a win would not be enough for the Rossoneri to claim the Scudetto in Round 35 after Inter's late win against Cesena on Saturday evening, and Massimiliano Allegri still had to do without the suspended Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Mark van Bommel as well as injured duo Alexandre Pato and Gennaro Gattuso. Meanwhile, Alberto Malesani's Bologna were looking to end a poor run of form after four consecutive losses.
Milan are now only need an additional one point just to confirm the title with three games remaining. As a rule Serie A (since 2005/06), one point is enough for Milan as they keep winning head-to-head when Inter won the the game remaining.
