Santos win Copa Libertadores after beat Penarol 2-1 (Agg. 2-1)



Santos won the 2011 Copa Libertadores after defeating Penarol 2-1 in the second leg of the final round. Neymar become one of the actors Santos victory thanks to his goal. He broke deadlock less than two minutes into the second half. Arouca exchanged passes with playmaker Ganso and rode several tackles on a run across the edge of the box before passing the ball to Neymar, who hit a low shot under goalkeeper Sebastian Sosa.

Danilo doubled in the 69th minute, racing into the box from the right onto a pass by Elano before steering a fine, low left-footed shot past Sosa just inside the far post.

Penarol got back into the contest 10 minutes later through an own goal by central defender Durval, whose attempt to block a cross lobbed up over goalkeeper Rafael into the net.

Santos came out as a champion of the Libertadores 2011 and would represent South America in the FIFA Club World Cup this year.

Immediately after the match end, Penarol players attacked their Santos counterparts and some ugly brawls broke out.
