Brazil legend Ronaldo bade farewell to the Brazilian fans on Wednesday (6/8/2011) in an emotional final match against Romania.
Ronaldo led the line for Brazil in their friendly against Romania and was full of smiles as he missed chance after chance set up by his teammates.
After a 18 year career, the 34 year old Ronaldo announced his retirement in February of this year. 3 times he won the FIFA World Player title, 4 times for Brazil World Cup - team took home the trophy twice, and left in the World Cup record of 15 goals.
Mano Menezes' side vistory 1-0 thanks to a Fred goal in the first half, but throughout the game Ronaldo was the centre of attention. Fans did not have to wait long to see him in action, as 30 minutes in the goalscorer was withdrawn to allow the former Cruzeiro, PSV Eindhoven, Barcelona, Inter, Real Madrid, Milan, and Corinthians star to take the pitch.
Ronaldo left the pitch intermission, the two players are lined up near the sideline for his applause. Ronaldo obviously deeply moved, and he wore the Brazilian national flag, holding football stadium around the pitch to fans.
Ronaldo fans chanted the name out loud. A fan of the slogan with the words “thank Ronaldo of Brazil,” another banner read, “Ronaldo is unique.”
The 30,000 plus fans crowd at the Pacaembu Stadium included Ronaldo's wife, Bia Anthony, his four children, Ronald, Alex, Maria Sophia and Maria Alice, and his parents, Sonia and Nelio.
