Jose Paolo Guerrero the hero as Peru beat Mexico 1-0

Jose Paolo Guerrero claimed his second goal of 2011 Copa America to give the Peruvians a deserved victory against 2011 Concacaf Gold Cup winner Mexico 1-0, stroking the ball home from close range in the 82nd minute after being left unmarked at the far post.

Peru dominated the second-half against a young Mexico team but some sharp goalkeeping and narrow misses kept the game scoreless until Paolo Guerrero scored.

Peru, who secured an impressive 1-1 draw with the 2010 FIFA World Cup semifinalist Uruguay in their opening game, wasted a host of chances in Mendoza as Juan Vargas twice struck the woodwork in the second half and Jose Paolo Guerrero failed to score with two excellent headed chances.

The win put Peru on four points alongside Chile, who had earlier come from behind to draw 1-1 with Uruguay.

Peru and Chile leaves the two time World Cup champion Uruguay third in the group C on two points, needing a positive result in their final game next week to advance to the quarter-finals.
