Manchester United wins FA Community Shield 2011

Manchester United win the Community Shield after beating derby rivals Manchester City by a score of 3-2 in the game at Wembley on Sunday. Nani become the hero as his 94th-minute winner completed a superb comeback by Manchester United.

Manchester City had led at halftime after a shaky start by United's Spanish goalkeeper David De Gea saw him beaten by Joleon Lescott's header. Lescott evaded his marker to meet David Silva’s delightful in swinging free kick to place a precision header into the top corner. Then a powerful swerving shot from Edin Dzeko flew past David de Gea into the net from some way out in first half stoppage time to send City into a 2-0 lead.

Sir Alex Ferguson made three substitutions at the interval, bringing on another new signing Phil Jones and Jonny Evans to replace Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic at the back, and introducing Tom Cleverley into his midfield.

It seemed to work, with the Red Devil again starting the half much brighter and this continued to be an uncompromising occasion. United were rewarded quickly when Chris Smalling netted after Young's freekick evaded Lescott and, six minutes later, Nani levelled as he rounded off a quick passing move involving Wayne Rooney and Tom Cleverley.

Rooney hooked clear from a City corner and with Vincent Kompany standing off, Nani nipped past Yaya Toure and he did a solo run from midfield managed to fool Joe Hart and ensure Manchester United into a 3-2 victory. This is the first title in 2011/2012 season for Manchester United.
